Your online application

Applying through the ERGO application portal has one major advantage: we can process your application more quickly and get back to you sooner. You can usually create an applicant profile in no time at all. Once your data is fully prepared, sending an application through our online application portal takes about 10 to 15 minutes.

How the application process works and processing time
  1. Confirmation of receipt: Once you have applied for a particular job, your application documents are entered into our application management system. We then immediately send you a confirmation of receipt. At the same time, your application is forwarded to the HR manager who will compare your qualifications and your skills with our job specification. Drawing up the shortlist generally takes two to four weeks.
  2. Interview: If we find your application documents interesting, we offer you either a face-to-face interview or a telephone interview. The first interview is for us to get to know each other and usually lasts around 60 minutes. The approximately one-hour interviews are generally conducted directly by a manager from the relevant department and HR. The interview is for us to get to know each other and for us to learn more about your personality, skills and qualifications. Of course, you will also have the opportunity to ask us your questions and learn about us as an employer.
  3. Concluding the contract: After the interview, we contact you to let you know our decision. If you receive an offer from us and you accept it, we will quickly send you your contract after clearing up all the internal formalities.

Tips for applicants

    • With your cover letter, curriculum vitae and job-relevant references, we can get an initial picture of you, your strengths and your personal expectations.
    • You provide persuasive arguments in support of your application on one DIN A4 page.
    • These include your special skills and the experience that qualifies you for the job.
    • However, we are also interested in your personal goals and wishes – and, of course, why you particularly want to work for our company.
    • You are exceptionally well-informed about our company.
    • You may have already called us or visited us at one of our events.
    • If so, please refer to this. This will make it easier for us to associate you with your application.
    • It shows us what you have done and achieved so far.
    • For us, it is helpful if your CV is clearly structured, complete, and easy to read.
    • Please mention at least the month and year when referring to periods of time.
    • You already have a number of achievements. You also have the documents to prove it – graduation certificates, training certificates, work references, diplomas, bachelor's or master's degree certificates.
    • Individual seminar certificates and complete dissertations, for example, are not relevant.
    • Show us that you know all about ERGO and the job that interests you.
    • You can find relevant information in our brochures, on our website, and in press releases, for example.
  • We are interested in all your relevant training certificates and work references – please make sure you submit good-quality scans. Are you still at school? If so, we need your last two school reports; you can send us your leaving certificate later if you haven’t yet received it. Have you been working a long time and accumulated a lot of certificates and testimonials? If so, it’s enough if you send us no more than five of the most recent ones. If possible, you should give some thought to choosing the best mixture of training and proficiency certificates, academic certificates and work references, with special attention to those that best describe your tasks, strengths and achievements.
  • If we invite you to an interview, it means we think you might be the right person for the job. In your personal interview, we want to flesh out the impression we have gained of you so far, get to know the person behind the CV, and give you the opportunity to find out whether we could be your future employer. This is why it's important to ask us questions and talk openly with us. We are looking for people who will fit in with us, not robots!
  • Did you have a good feeling when you came away from the interview? If so, you are welcome to let us know – an email or letter can confirm the (positive) image we have of you. You can also tell us what you learned from the interview and what you liked most.
  • Well-presented documents tell us a lot about you. This begins with the font you use, and also includes correct grammar and spelling.

    • Font: Use the same font (black on white) for all your documents. It’s up to you to decide whether to use a serif font (such as Times, Cambria, Georgia, Courier, Book Antiqua, Times New Roman etc.) or sans-serif font (such as Arial, Helvetica, Calibri, Tahoma, Trebuchet, Verdana etc.) – you know best which font is right for you. Legibility is important.
    • Formatting: DIN 5008 is useful if you want to structure your application in line with official standards. If possible, make sure your cover letter is no longer than one DIN A4 page.
    • Cover page: This isn’t essential, but can add the perfect finishing touch to your documents if the design is visually appealing. Not to be confused with the cover letter.
    • CV: This is where clarity comes up trumps. Start with your current position and summarise your most important tasks and achievements in a bullet list underneath. Don’t forget to sign your CV!

Be ruthless about eliminating mistakes:Please make sure there are no spelling mistakes or grammatical errors in your application.

Our ‘personal branding’ tips for you

Are you active on social media? If so, use your profiles to improve your chances of success when looking for a job! The information about your life, activities and personality that you reveal on platforms such as XING, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube (to name just a few) can be useful when promoting yourself. We have put together a few tips that might help you build up a good ‘personal brand’ (or ‘own brand’), make yourself more visible, and improve your chances of getting your dream job.

  • This means being truthful about yourself and your personality and skills, and letting people know what matters to you. Tell the world about your qualifications and some of your achievements, position yourself and make it clear that you are well ahead in your field. Emphasise what makes you stand out from the crowd and infuse everything with your personal style.

  • Are you looking for a job? Don’t just show us what you’ve got, show us where you want to go. Particularly when you are moving to another sector or aiming to take on new tasks, you have to be absolutely clear about why these new challenges are meant for you.
  • It is important that you make a credible impression on all the platforms you use, especially when you have several profiles – this means paying attention to consistency and dependability. The content you publish will of course vary slightly from channel to channel; however, you should never lose sight of your target group and always make sure the information you provide is consistent.
  • Every success you celebrate can be a testimonial and should appear on your profile. Build up and maintain your network – job opportunities can often open up through friends or acquaintances who know someone who knows someone. And don’t forget: the more contacts you have in a certain sector who are able to confirm your expertise, the greater your visibility and the better your reputation.
  • An important tip: your personal brand should always be up-to-date – this means you have to keep updating your profiles. This takes time and effort but is worth it in the end. Personal branding is a never-ending process – and one that helps attract the attention of the right people at the right time.
